SMall Incision Lenticle Extraction uses the latest advancement in laser vision correction technology to correct high levels of nearsightedness and astigmatism. The keyhole laser eye surgery is minimally invasive, quick and painless with a fast surgery recovery time. This means you can return to work and normal life activities within a couple of days.
IS SMILE® Pro FOR YOU?
SMILE® Pro is suitable for those aged 20 - 65 years and can correct from -1.00D to -10.00 diopters (D) of nearsightedness and up to -3.00D of astigmatism.
It is the preferred choice of treatment for athletes who may be exposed to eye trauma or those who want to return to sport within days of the procedure.
People who may develop dry eyes after surgery may be better suited to SMILE® Pro.
THE SMILE® Pro PROCEDURE
SMILE® Pro uses the latest laser vision correction technology - Zeiss VisuMax 800 femotsecond laser - to reshape the cornea.
The laser creates a small lens-shaped piece of corneal tissue (called the lenticule) inside the cornea. The surgeon then removes the lenticule through a small incision (keyhole). This reshapes the cornea to optimise focus and sharpen vision long term.
The procedure is done as a day procedure at our purpose built laser eye surgery theatre and only requires eye drops as local anaesthetic. The short surgery time frame allows you to relax and be less nervous as the laser is completed in under 10 seconds.

COMMON SMILE® Pro QUESTIONS
IS SMILE® Pro DIFFERENT FROM LASIK?
SMILE® Pro laser eye surgery is an alternative to LASIK surgery for the correction of nearsightedness. It only uses one laser and is quiet and odourless.
HOW DO I KNOW IF SMILE® Pro IS SUITABLE FOR MY EYES?
At Bowen Eye Clinic we offer a free assessment with the surgeon Dr Reece Hall and will perform a series of simple tests and scans to check your suitability. If your eyes are not suitable for the procedure, alternative treatments including LASIK, Advanced Surface Ablation (PRK), Staar ICL, and Refractive Lens Exchange can then be discussed.
We are the only eye clinic where you will meet the surgeon, Dr Reece Hall, at your suitability assessment to discuss which procedure is best suited for your eyes.
WILL IT BE PAINFUL?
No, anaesthetic numbing eye drops are placed in your eye before the treatment so you won’t feel any pain. You may be aware of some slight pressure against your eye. Afterwards there will be a slight gritty feeling and some people feel a mild pain after laser vision correction which can be relieved with panadol.
HOW MUCH DOES SMILE® Pro COST?
At Bowen Eye Clinic all of the laser correction surgeries cost the same. $3450 per eye. The price includes all follow-up appointments for 12 months and any enhancement procedures if required.
