What are your options for private Cataract Surgery in Palmerston North?
Bowen Eye Clinic offers a Cataract and Laser Eye Surgery clinic every second Thursday in Palmerston North giving you the benefit of having your eye care closer to home. This service provides all of your pre-assessment and post operative follow-up care to be done in Palmerston North by the same cataract surgeon, Dr Reece Hall , who can perform your cataract operation at Crest Hospital on a Thursday. Crest Hospital is on Carroll St in Palmerston North and is the operating entity of the Southern Cross Hospital and Aorangi Hospital partnership.
Cataract assessments are done in Bowen Eye Clinic’s Palmerston North clinic at Eyes on Broadway. The assessment involves a full eye examination of the front and back of the eye and normally takes around 30 minutes. The eye exam will be undertaken by the surgeon, Dr Reece Hall who will use dilating eyedrops to examine your cataract and retina. Biometry measurements of the length of the eye and the shape of the front of the eye are taken which Dr Hall then uses to select the best intra-ocular lens for your individual eye. He’ll discuss with you your preferred focus after cataract surgery whether it be for near or far sight. Some people who want to minimise glasses choose mono-vision where the dominant eye is focused for the distance and the non-dominant eye for close up reading. There are a range of intra-ocular lenses (IOL) available including toric intra-ocular lens (IOL) that correct astigmatism. Bowen Eye Clinic can offer the latest Nidek topographic and wavefront analysis to help select the best toric-intra-ocular lens for you. Before you make your decision, Dr Hall will take the time to discuss your expectations, the outcomes, and any risks or potential complications of the surgery.
All post-opertive care and follow-up appointments are included in the surgical fee and are done in Bowen Eye Clinic’s Palmerston North clinic. Dr Hall will prescribe both steroid and antibiotic eye-drops to be used 4x a day post-operatively. The steroid eye drops (Prednisolone) are used for 4 weeks and the antibiotic (Chloramphenicol) is used for 2 weeks after your surgery.
After 4 weeks from surgery is normally the time to upgrade your glasses with your Optometrist. Glasses will normally improve your sight another 5-10% after cataract surgery. At Bowen Eye Clinic we also offer Laser Eye Surgery post cataract surgery for those who want perfect vision without glasses.
